I wish to make a smart group based on a relative date range filter of a custom field
A MIH has indicated this is now available.
I find this is available in a report criteria but not an advanced search.
Go to the 4.5 sandbox
create a custom field set "Refresher dates"
create a custom date field "next training date"

under reports open membership reports>> membership details .
Under report criteria>> set filters>> "next training date" will show the drop down list to select a variety of relative dates.

Open an advanced search>>memberships>>Refresher Dates"
The "next Training Date" only offers the static From/To option and not the relative dates

I could be approaching this wrong so can someone point me in the right direction.
