Fatal Error with Event Calendar - Extension
August 05, 2014, 02:19:47 pm
I'm using WP3.9.1 and CiviCRM4.4.4
I installed the Event Calendar - Extension and got this fatal error when I tried to active this plugin

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare civi_wp() (previously declared in /home3/gracebeg/public_html/wp-content/plugins/civicrm/civicrm.php:1434) in /home3/gracebeg/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-event-calendar/wordpress-event-calendar.php on line 1267

What do I need to do to be able to fix this?
THANKS.

I'm getting the same error!! WP3.9.1 and Civicrm 4.4.6

I also tried to use the EveryCalendar +1 WP plug-in put no matter what I do no events show in the calendar.

It's sad that Civicrm does not have a working calendar as part of it's core function. I really wanted to avoid using Google Calendar and making my users copy and paste short code links into it.

I contacted the author.  I think it's a version issue.  I see the calendar is for CiviCRM 4.3

I'm hoping it can be changed so it will work with later versions also.

Thanks for the update. If I knew php better I would try to resolve this myself, didn't find much info with my Google searches.

The author emailed me asking what version of everything I'm running but I have not received a reply yet.

Thank You for the follow up.

I was able to modify the code to get pass the error and activate it, but the Calendar object does not show up in the Civicrm button drop down list. So my edit did not really fix anything. May send a little time today and do more research. And of course I will post here if I'm able to fix this.

This is Sad! No news, for over a month, from the developer about fixing this extension.

From what I heard from the extension developer the extension used to work with previous versions of wp and joomla but no longer does

I think the new versions of that extension mention this

Is the reason just that he is no longer supporting Joomla and Wordpress, or is there a deeper reason for it?  Just wondering if it's a case of needing attention from another developer.

Not sure.

Another option would be for CiviCRM to incorporate this code into the CiviCRM core.

So on my test/development installation I installed WP 3.8, Civicrm 4.6 and install the calendar Extension and the WP plug-in.
Everything worked, updated to WP-4.0 and everything still works.

Sorry for not replying on this earlier.... I got this working on a couple newer Civi installs.   I did have to purchase some time from the developer on this though!!!!     All seems to be ok now.
On the one install I had to check CiviCRM: access CiviCRM in the WordPress permissions.

Thanks for the update. The calendar is still working for me. I will be testing an update to civicrm 4.5x over the weekend. I'll post an update.

Re: Fatal Error with Event Calendar - Extension

There was a version of the extension that included the entire civicrm-wordpress plugin as part of the package. That would account for the "Cannot redeclare civi_wp()" error seen by the OP.

The current version works okay:
https://github.com/osseed/com.osseed.eventcalendar
It doesn't hook into WordPress very well (misuse of the `get_header` action, for example) but survives this.

I've updated it to work with the next release of civicrm-wordpress plugin. It should also work with the current version:
https://github.com/christianwach/com.osseed.eventcalendar/tree/civi-4.6

There are a couple of minor issues which still need addressing as detailed on my PR here (no response for a week, though):
https://github.com/osseed/com.osseed.eventcalendar/pull/11
