CiviEvent confirmation email not sent
August 06, 2014, 02:07:12 pm
I have several free events set up and confirmation emails are not going out. Background:

- "Send confirmation email" is set to "yes" for each event
- Confirm from email address is the same email as that used for the smtp test
- The outbound email test email on the outbound email configuration screen works correctly, and is set to mail().
- Email is also not sent when doing a participant search, selecting one and then selecting "send email to contacts" .
- Edited to add: the system completes the event registration successfully, and says the email confirmation has been sent.

CiviCRM 4.4.6 on Drupal 7.31.

Are the event receipt emails the only ones that CviCRM should be sending?

If so, do you have Cron set up correctly to send emails? If you are not sure and there is no-one who can check immediately, you could create a CiviMailing, send it and see what happens.

If not, and the other emails are being sent successfully, are you using the Default Event confirmation emails or have you modified them?  A logic error in modified emails will prevent them going out even though the system says they are being sent.

Thanks for your help.

The "thank you for registering" confirmation email is not the only one that should go out, but it does need to work.

Cron is set up correctly to send emails. I created a CiviMailing and it works correctly.

In the "online registration" tab of the event configuration, I've checked "send a confirmation email", entered a confirm from name and confirm from email as well as some plain text for the "additional message or instructions". This is what is not working. I'm using the same email address as the confirm from email as that used for CiviMailing.

Any other ideas?

I understand that these receipts need to work.  I am just trying to gauge the extent of your problem. Do you have an online contribution page ( Donation or membership sign up) where the receipts are being sent out correctly?

To check if you are using the default receipt for this situation, go to Mailings > Message templates  and select the System workflow messages tab.  Here you will find a list of emails sent by CiviCRM on various occasions.

Find Events - Registration Confirmation and Receipt (on-line) and check to see what is to the right of the title.  If it is just Edit then you are using the default template.  If it is Edit  |  Revert to Default  |  View Default then this template has been customised and a logic error introduced during the customisation could prevent it being sent.

Also, on a re-read of your original post, I am not quite sure what you mean by:
Quote
- Email is also not sent when doing a participant search, selecting one and then selecting "send email to contacts" .

Once someone has registered for an event the way to trigger a "resend" of a confirmation email is to:
  • Do a participant search.
  • Select edit (on the right side of the screen ) for the relevant participant.
  • Tick Send Confirmation and Receipt in the Edit Event Registration screen
  • Enter your additional text in the Confirmation Message field
  • Save
What will actually be sent is the Events - Registration Confirmation and Receipt (off-line)   which is why I put "Resend" - it isn't a resend of the Events - Registration Confirmation and Receipt (on-line).

Sorry I didn't mean to sound snarky there.

I am using the default message template for confirmations under the system workflow messages tab.

Regarding the "send email to contacts" thing, if I go to Events | Find Participants and then select one and choose "send email to contacts" from the actions menu, I can create a custom email message that should be sent to the selected event participants. They never receive it, though. Hope that makes sense.

I did try to trigger a "resend" of a confirmation email via the method you suggested, and they did not receive it.

Thanks so much for your help.

I figured it out.

The bounce processing email address I was using was part of a different domain, so the email was not sent even though CiviEvent said it was. Once I changed this to an email address that is part of the same domain as that defined in the smtp settings, everything started working.

Thanks again for your help.
