Household Profile for Registration
May 14, 2008, 11:20:07 am
I'd like to create a custom profile page for registration wherein a member of a household creates a membership for the household.  This person would be defaulted as the head of household member.  The form would also contain a place to enter demographic info for a spouse and multiple children.  Upon submission, CiviCRM would create the appropriate member accounts and relationships for each person identified in the profile.

In addition, each member type could also have a different membership fee, but that's another issue.

Have any forum members developed a registration profile that is in any way similar to that which I've described?

Thanks for your help in getting me started on this approach.

(Drupal 5.7 & CiviCRM 2.0.3)

PS:  When is CiviCRM 2.1 really going to be released?  There seems to be some features in it that I think would allow a head of household to sign up household members for events.

Hi Paul,

Matt C. here. I read your post and though the issue sounded familiar... :-) Hope your project is going well.

As far as I know, there is not a way in the user interface to do everything you describe. You'll need some code that makes use of the _post hook and the Relationships API to create the household relationships upon creation of the Membership.

The relevant Developer Documentation is here:

According to Lobo as of today, 2.1 code freeze will be late July / early August. But I've noticed a perpetual rumor in the CiviCRM community that the-one-amazing-feature-I've-been-waiting-for will be in the very next release. Or maybe it's just me always saying that. :-)

Don't get me wrong; there are a lot of great improvements slated fro 2.1, which is probably why the date is later every time I hear it, but there will still be a 2.2 and a 2.3, and eventually, a 3.0 and beyond.... For now, it seems best to work with what you have today.

So our latest attempt at dates are here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/CiviCRM+v2.1

As with all software projects its a toss up on whether we'll actually hit those dates :)

A couple of reasons behind the latter dates.

* We have a couple of consulting gigs (USPIRG and PledgeBank) that will be part of the 2.1 release. Those projects pay most of the bills, so they influence the dates a bit :)
* While folks do want Drupal 6 / Joomla 1.5 compatibility, its not as big a issue as we expected. So 2.1 is now a full fledged point release rather than the small release we thought it would be a few months back
* Trying to get that "one-amazing-feature-folks-have-been-waiting-for" in 2.1 release takes a lot of time/energy/effort. This might end up delaying the release even more :)

We are pretty much feature frozen at this stage. We've been making some pretty good progress with regard to the issue queue. But its still quite some time away :)
