CiviDiscount Extension
August 11, 2014, 06:22:30 am
I am having a problem with a client's website.

They wanted a way to implement discounts to their civicrm members. So I found Cividiscount, and thought that it would be a great solution. Two problems I have had since installing the extension.

The first being that the tab "codes redeemed" does not work and simply displays the entire civi screen under the tab, as if someone had taken a screenshot of their computer screen. This fixes itself once someone has redeemed a coupon code, just on their tab not everyone's.

Also the second problem is that the coupon codes does not reflect in the final payment. It will appear on registration form as if it had worked but in the price actually charged to the credit card, is not the discounted code. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's an issue with this extension when used with Drupal 6 (in that the discount isn't applied unless a price set is used), but I don't know is this is related to your problem - looks like you are using Wordpress.

I'm having the same issue with Drupal 7.

We are providing a fee-based online training that we would like to provide discount codes for in certain situations, such as promotions. Currently, the site is set up to register a user to the training membership type through civimember after making the payment via credit/debit card. I've installed cividiscount to provide the option to discount the regular rate. If I create a code that reduces membership cost by 100% and the user applies it, the cost is reduced to 0.00 on the page, but they are still required to enter a credit card number, and when they do, they are charged full price, despite zero being reflected on the page. I feel like I'm missing some basic step.

Any advice?

First step is to make sure you are using up to date versions. I've not seen this issue with D7.

Thanks. I've expanded my explanation. I installed cividiscount a few weeks ago. Do you think my version of civilCRM might be too old for it to work or is there something with price sets I need to do?

4.3.8 is certainly pretty long in the tooth, hasn't been supported for some long while, and that would be where I would start.

https://civicrm.org/extensions/cividiscount tells me that Cividiscount beyond version 2.6 does not support Civi 4.3.x or 4.4.x, and I've no idea whether those older versions of the extension continue to benefit from more recent bug fixes. As far as I can recall, version 3 of Cividiscount was a substantial step forward and solved my problem.

If it's an option for you, and I realise that if you have a lot of custom stuff or extensions in place it might be a challenge, I would strongly recommend that you aim to get your Civi installation upgraded to the latest iteration of 4.6. You may want to take that in steps, as upgrades on those older versions was noticeably less reliable than is currently the case. So, maybe update to the last 4.3 release if you aren't there yet, then go to the last release of 4.4, and perhaps from there to 4.6.

I appreciate your feedback. Our site is really complex with a lot of customizations and extensions, etc. I am planning to upgrade CiviCRM soon, however, I won't be able to accomplish this in the timeframe I have for launching a discount code.

I checked and I installed the version of CiviDiscount (2.6) that is compatible with the version of CiviCRM that I am running. I inherited this project but am pretty new to Drupal and CiviCRM.

Between CiviContribute, CiviMember, CiviDiscount and the various price sets, payment processors and other pieces that could come in to play, I just want to make sure I'm not missing something basic in the configuration steps.

There is only one payment option set for the CiviContribute page for membership sign-up, and one membership type that is set for a certain minimum fee (I assume that the discount code is supposed to be able to lower this minimum fee).

Try this, which as I recall, worked for me. Set up a price set for your membership. Then edit the discount code to ensure that it applies to the price set. See if this works. Other than that I can't think of any other approach that might work for you.
