Pre-filled Profile Error Upon Submission

I get the following error when a user submits a pre-filled profile (pre-filled via a checksum token):

Warning: in_array() expects parameter 2 to be array, null given in CRM_Core_Permission::ufGroupValid() (line 262 of /home/.../www/www/sites/all/modules/civicrm/CRM/Core/Permission.php).

This only happens when user is not logged in, so I'm assuming it is a permission issue. Further, this only started happening after our last upgrade to 4.4.5.

However, I'm not really sure where to start troubleshooting. The site does not use ACLs.
