[ANSWERED] 4.5 for production (kind of) ?
August 25, 2014, 07:29:04 am
Working on a Drupal site redesign.  Would like to build on 4.5 (especially for Bootstrap UI and widgets) but still in beta.  plan to launch in mid to late sept.  Is it crazy to use 4.5?  What is the likelihood of an upgrade path?

Probably a dumb idea, but it is so close ...

I don't think that's dumb at all. Quite the opposite. It's a much better idea to build your site on 4.5 rather than being limited to 4.4 while building and then running into upgrade issues when you go live.

Behind the scenes, the civicrm upgrade script always goes through all the alphas and betas anyway. So when you upgrade from say 4.4.4 to 4.5.0 you're really doing this:
4.4.4->4.4.5->4.4.6->4.5.alpha1->4.5.alpha2 etc... ->4.5.beta1->4.5.beta2-> etc... ->4.5.0

Starting out on 4.5 beta just means you get to skip a bunch of those steps when you upgrade to 4.5.0 :)
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.
