Import concerns on numbers imported and reporting and adding tags
May 16, 2008, 12:44:15 am
I have a group of elected local body people to import.
I set up a relationship of 'councillor'
I imported 9 names. Report said "9 Rows imported successfully."
I looked at the Council and yay there were some names there under Relationships - but only 7

Now I may have set the import to 'skip' duplicates. As I knew one person was already in database.

I had Contact Matching set to first_name AND last_name AND email

The person I knew was already in had the same email, so i expected them to be skipped.

The other missing person has the same first and last as someone in the database but not sure if they are same person. Has no email. They did not have the relationship applied.

My suspicions is it skipped these two but did not report. Does skipping work off Contact Matching rules? I presume so.

And I am 99% certain i had ticked 'Add groups to Tag' - and that has not happened either.

I have several of these types to do so will run again and advise on outcome.

Piccies as evidence your honour

Next moment of concern.
I have Contact Match rule set to first+last+city

I try importing a file which includes
- John Hurley, city=richmond
- john read, city=martinborough
- malcolm campbell, city = whakatane

they dont' import due to being duplicates. i check my database, and find I have
- malcolm campbell, city = christchurch
- john hurley, city = christhchurch etc

Is something misbehaving or do I still not get how Contact Matching works?

Re: Import concerns on numbers imported and reporting and adding tabs

Sure- other thing.

Is it known that you cannot import with the new contacts being set to both 'add to new group' and 'add to tag'?

That was my experience last night. Should I be able to do both at once?

REason I want to is so I can easily identify each new import and have them categorised by tab at same time. If I set to 'add to new group' I can then find the group and add to Tag - so it isn't critical - but if it is a known or newly discovered constraint then the UI should either prevent both being set, or the documentation should indicate it.

You can do both actions 'add to new group' and 'add to tag'. I don't think there is an issue with that.
Can you replicate it on demo ?

Does "tab" = "tag" in this thread? (a bit confusing)...

I did find a possibly related bug which I posted for 2.1 fix:

OK - so on civi demo the test i did to import and add both a Tag (with a g) and Group worked fine.

Definitely failed on my own effort. Have several more to do so shall try and report back.

Re: Import concerns on numbers imported and reporting and adding tags

So just ran an import (using Safari) set it to Add Tag and Add Group - it failed to do both - and failed to set up the New Tag, though it did set up the New Group. It failed to report that most of my records were duplicates. It did import the 25 unique Org addresses but did not report this.
I imported same file on Demo and it worked properly. Is it because I am hitting my keyboard too hard  :P

I would also note that twice now it has given me a "CiviCRM has detected invalid data or formatting errors in 1 records. If you continue, these records will be skipped. OR, you can download a file with just these problem records - Download Errors. Then correct them in the original import file, cancel this import and begin again at step 1." and when I download the file it tells me the error is in the header row I used!
