[SOLVED-somewhat] Need both PayPal "Pro" and "Standard" accounts?

I've done the searches – to no avail – in hopes of finding this answer because I hope it's not a totally stoopid question!

My client has an active PayPal Website Payments Pro account in order to process event registration fees and "Donate Now!" (one-time) contributions.

However, they also want to establish a "Pledge" or "Individual/Business" contribution capability and allow recurring donations.

I've read enough to know (I think!) that in order to get a recurring payment checkbox in CiviCRM, you have to create a Payment Processor with PayPal Website Payments Standard.

OK... here's the dumb question: Do I need to have my client set up a separate PayPal account for PayPal WP Standard?  :-\

In advance, thanks for a response,
nuMedia (feeling dumb for asking)

you'll need to check paypal docs to confirm this, BUT i dont think so. paypal WP standard just needs a business account to receive money. so i suspect you can use the same account as WP Pro

Thank you, Lobo.

Sigh... I will dive again into the unruly behemoth that is PayPal and seek an answer. Besides looking at documentation, I'll try their forum - it's not 1/1000th as good as this one but maybe I'll get lucky.

Logically, I wouldn't think you'd need two accounts but... is there logic to PayPal?

Snooping around PayPal today, I found the following information concerning Recurring Payments (dated 2-15-2008) through Website Payments Pro accounts.
http://www.paypaldeveloper.com/blog/article?blog.id=devblog&message.id=533

Of course, on the sign-up page, it says to my dismay...

"You'll need a developer to integrate Recurring Payments."

I'm going to go look in the CiviCRM Professionals section for some help! Gotta move on...

CiviCRM has not yet integrated the WebPayments Pro recurring API. Its a pretty new development and was not available when we first did recurring payment. A community contribution to integrate this into core would be great :)

Where does one make such a contribution?

I'd much rather contribute to the development of a core capability than pay a developer I don't know for a "custom" fix. I fear I won't learn much and I have at least two more sites needing recurring payment capability this year.

Any guess on what it will take to do it?... in both $$ and time?

And, do you know if Google Checkout is considering recurring payment capability? I'm wondering if overall, Google Checkout isn't easier to implement. I need to delve into it, too - so much to do... so little time.

Thanks, Lobo!

The forums are a great place to attach a contribution. if general purpose and solves some core issues, we'll figure out how/when/where to integrate with core. for something like the paypal WP Pro api, i'd recommend the developers coordinate with us on IRC before writing any code etc

Our consulting rates and contract is here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Consulting+Services+Agreement. I'd budget approx 50 hours for this

no idea about google checkout and recurring. when that happens, we'll need to add code to deal with that separately
