Poor display for advanced search
September 02, 2014, 05:43:16 pm
I am running 4.5 beta 8 with Drupal 7 on a Windows 7 machine.

It is a standard install, no extra drupal modules, no changes to themes etc.

The advanced search form is poorly displayed as you can see in the first attachment.  It works properly, it just looks amateurish.

The actual search results make better use of the page as you can see in the second attachment.

This happens in latest Firefox, Chrome and IE.

CiviCRM was first written back in the days when it was common to use tables for layout. As your screenshot shows, this is not a good idea and is now considered a very bad practice.
If your drupal theme was wider it would look ok though (people often set a different admin theme for Civi - I like Garland set to flexible width).

Thanks Coleman.

The "problem" arose because the site is my home sandbox site and I have never worried about themes as it is purely for testing CiviCRM.  I also don't have anything to do with themes on the website at work, so didn't even think of that being the problem.

I suppose most people using CiviCRM will know more than me about such things.

Well yes, but people who know about such things also probably know that you're not supposed to use tables for layout, so we really ought to fix it.
