What to do with a broken 1.6 CiviCRM?
May 18, 2008, 02:26:27 am
Someone has brought to me now a Drupal 5.3 site with CiviCRM 1.6.8517. The site was working fine until recently and now if we try to add a contact or a Contribution page or delete one of these, the system doesn't work. If I try to add or delete a contact, I submit the page and then the exact same page returns to my browser--there in no error message, yet nothing happened either.

Control panel says: PHP Version 4.4.4

phpMyAdmin says "MySQL client version: 4.1.22"

Drupal reports that MySQL is 4.1.22 which matches the control panel.

But Drupal says "PHP Version 5.2.0" and that seems to be correct actually, because I can see the output of phpinfo right in Drupal. Seems that the control panel is wrong.

I have asked the site owner to contact the host to ask if anything changed on the server recently, but whether or not they will provide a helpful answer, how should I proceed?

Certainly I need to update Drupal and CiviCRM but if there is corruption in the CiviCRM data, I am concerned that doing an update may make that worse. I wonder if it makes more sense to try to debug now before updating.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thank you.

Have you checked error logs (php, webserver) to see if there are any clues?

Aside from that "debugging" idea - one thing you might do is a fresh install of Drupal 5.7 and CiviCRM 2.0.3 on their server and see if things run properly. That way you'll know if you have a viable environment.

I have a vague recollection of a configuration problem which caused the behavior you seem to be describing (i.e. form submits don't save) - but my quick search didn't turn it up.  :-(

Well MySQL is 4.1.22 so I don't think CiviCRM 2 will run.

Any other ideas?

Just to followup, I installed this site on the servers of Gallery Robinson: http://www.galleryrobinson.com/hosting.php and it works fine there. Seems it was a config issue. So I just switched to that host and now we're all set. :)

Thanks.
