Joomla login to CiviCRM and CiviCRM membership website
September 05, 2014, 08:49:20 am
Hello everyone

Now before I am told that this has been addressed in other posts, I have taken considerable time to look through all the documentation and the board prior to registering, and I could not find a clear answer to my questions which follow:

1. Having installed a CiviCRM as a component, how do I enable the members of that component (not the Joomla usergroups) to login and pay memberships, update their info and
2. How does one install CiviCRM as a membership website rather than a component?

I am not new to Joomla having used it for many years but am new to CiviCRM.

As a volunteer, myself, I appreciate the time taken to guide those of us new to this superb program (which is exactly what my organization was looking for), and recognize that time is precious...

Thank you

Valerie

hey valerie:

a. Not sure what you mean by item 2, so might want to elaborate. Briefly, CiviCRM is a component and resides under joomla and relies on joomla for all website related stuff

b. you will need to create a login for your members in joomla. CiviCRM does not have a separate login but relies on joomla to provide login and auth services. CiviCRM does link the joomla user with the civicrm contact (via the email address) which allows them to update their info (via profiles) or renew their membership etc

Thank you Lobo.

To make certain that I understand correctly.  It is the same as UserGroups ie add Membership and this automatically links to the email addresses within the CiviCRM?

To clarify the second - I have noticed that there are sites set up as Renewal Sites or is this a separate component that one adds or selects from the Admin within CiviCRM which links to the Joomla menu or content etc.

Hello Valerie,

1. Memberships are handled with within CiviCRM and automatically attached to the contact record, but out of the box those memberships are not linked to Joomla in anyway.  If you want to be able to assign Joomla User Groups to CiviCRM membership statuses, you need to install the CiviCRM ACL Plugin.  http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Joomla+CiviCRM+Membership+Authentication+and+ACL+Plugin.  I think that answers the question but please let me know if it doesn't.

2.  Membership sign up and renewals are handled by Contribution Pages.  It is one of the tabs as you go through the set up process for a contribution page.  Renewals and New Memberships actually use the exact same form, the difference is whether the member is signed in or not.  If they are signed in to your site when they visit the form then it is a renewal form, otherwise it is a new membership form.

Hi Valerie

One of the main things your going to want to do is to redirect normal Joomla registration to your CiviCRM membership area.

By now you have probably worked out that you can assign a CiviCRM membership signup/contribution page to a Joomla menu, you'll now want your users to be redirected to this page so they can make a payment.

Here is a plugin that I maintain which will enable you to do the redirection
