Fairly new web dev looking for help. Civi+Wordpress

Hi there! I'm new at most of this, so forgive me if I don't make sense. I'm hoping you can ease my worries with this project I've found my way into.

Here's the scoop:

The site my company and I are hired to redesign and develop (my job) is ABC's site, http://christiancounseling.com.

They are currently running CiviCRM integrated with Drupal. The main reason they're using CiviCRM is to manage the hundreds of members and certifications along with accept payments/donations. Very important is the functionality for a member to log in and then access "members-only" content/resources.

I'm currently building out the front end of the "new" site that you can see here: http://abc.velcrokid.com/. I've got Wordpress 3.9.2 running and managing the interior pages.

I've never worked with CiviCRM before now, and I can't seem to find any current documentation on where to start with CiviCRM on Wordpress. Everything I've read seems to be a bit dated. I'll be having CiviHosting (their current host) "install" and/or migrate the existing CiviCRM database from the current site to our new one, but I'm not sure where that will leave me as far as being able to do things like make a registration form, a login form, have pages that are only available to logged-in members, and more. When asking about the member exclusive content, I've been pointed towards this article from 2012: https://civicrm.org/blogs/rajesh/wordpress-access-control. It mentioned better usability with Wordpress in the future with CiviCRM, and I'm hoping that's true, but I can't seem to find any current entries about it.

Though I pick up new systems fairly quick, this is an intimidating task to say the least, and I'm honestly quite nervous about it. I'd love to be taught about how to work with CiviCRM, or at the very least be pointed in the right direction towards some current documentation/examples/instructions/etc.

Thank you for your time!

Erik Hommel
