Problems with Firstdata/Linkpoint if running Civi on a 64-bit server?
September 17, 2014, 07:09:11 pm
After getting things running smoothly between my new-ish web host and Firstdata/Linkpoint, suddenly today I started having problems, and Firstdata suspects it's because my web host is running on a 64-bit server.  It's true - older versions of the Linkpoint API (such as the one Civi apparently uses) need a 32-bit server.

I wish I had the programming skills to write (or the money to pay someone to write) an updated processor for Linkpoint, because for us it's much cheaper than Paypal.

i might be mistaken, but i'm pretty sure that most if not all php code (or any high level scripting languages) does not really care whether it runs on 32 or 64 bit

It looked like this (somewhat anonymized for privacy):

Payment Processor Error message
6: Curl error - Could not resolve host: secure.linkpt.net your key is located at /home/ourdomain/public_html/linkpoint/(our store number).pem the url is https://secure.linkpt.net:1129/LSGSXML xml is Sale41150794101426220716422provided (customer name and address and whatnot)Eci59e60859ad7a4eb45d816fc395c297e0148742010Online Event Registration: (Event Name)
processor response =

Our web host has checked, and there is no communication issue between their server and Linkpoint's.  There really WAS a 32-bit dependency for the older Linkpoint API:
