Upgrade from 4.4.5 to 4.5, Joomla 3, D/B Upgrade Function Error
September 18, 2014, 07:16:59 am
Joomla! 3.3.3 Stable , PHP 5.3.24-1~dotdeb.0; Database: 5.1.66-0

Upgrade installation seems to run without error ("CiviCRM successfully installed" ), calling the component works (partially), however the Database Upgrade terminates wit the error:
"Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
CiviCRM 4.5.0 requires MySQL trigger privileges."

I was following: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Joomla+Sites+to+4.5

I have recognized PHP Version is wrong  5.3.24 instead of 5.3.3+. If it is this I need to fall back to the backup? Right!

Does anybody has a suggestion on this? Thank you !

If you were able to install/upgrade to CiviCRM 4.4.5 then I'm not sure why you would suddenly be getting this error.  Generally this error occurs when the database user that is accessing the CiviCRM database doesn't have permissions to create triggers.  It's something that I usually see on new installs, or upgrades from pre 4.3 versions, and requires either myself or the server administrator to grant the database user the permissions before attempting the upgrade/install.  Have there been changes to your database set up since you installed?  Or did you modify the install/upgrade script for 4.4.5 when you did that one to avoid this error?

Here the Steps:
(1)
Uploading and executing the CIVI update installing from directory as described in the howto file:
(2) Message
Nachricht
Die Komponenten-Installation wurde abgeschlossen!

What means completed without error
and

CiviCRM
CiviCRM component files have been UPGRADED successfully.
Please run the CiviCRM Database Upgrade Utility now. This utility will check your database and perform any needed upgrades.
Also review the Upgrade Guide for any additional steps required to complete this upgrade.
(3)
Clicking on "Database Upgrade Utility" the result is:
"Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
CiviCRM 4.5.0 requires MySQL trigger privileges."
---
Nothing changed no script edited.
....

I tried as well to recover the Backup i did with xcloner: There ate tons of erroers like "Duplicate entry" coming from the civicrm part of the database, so I was not able to reconer the old state either.

For the old state, did you drop all of the tables before trying to restore the database, or did you rely on drop statements in the backup?  The latter can be an issue because of foreign key checks so you need to drop the tables first manually.

I'm going to set up a test environment this weekend in Joomla 3 to go from 4.4.x to 4.5 since there appear to be a number of issues appearing with the database upgrade.  I will see if there are any one a clean install and if I find anything I will let you know.

I have a similar problem with similar setup: Joomla 3.3, upgrade from 4.4.6 to 4.5.

After CiviCRM component files have been UPGRADED successfully, I ran the DATABASE update, but the resulting screen was blank, only showing a pair of "[]" and two buttons: RETRY and SKIP. None of them work.

Then I entered the CIVI component (http://mydomain.org/administrator/index.php?option=com_civicrm) and CIVI menus had gone (Joomla menus where OK).

I typed directly in the navigator address bar the Administrator Console´s URL (http://mydomain.org/administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin&reset=1) and I could see all the expected links, but yet no menus, and a Warning "New codebase version detected. You might want to visit upgrade screen to upgrade the database."

Clicking on the link (http://mydomain.org/administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/upgrade&reset=1), an alert:

"Upgrade CiviCRM to Version 4.5.0
Use this utility to upgrade your CiviCRM database from 4.4.6 to 4.5.0.
Back up your database before continuing. This process may change your database structure and values. In case of emergency you may need to revert to a backup. For more detailed information, refer to the Upgrade Documentation.
Click 'Upgrade Now' if you are ready to proceed. Otherwise click 'Cancel' to return to the CiviCRM home page."

Clicking in 'Upgrade Now', the same error: blank screen with two "[]" and two buttons: RETRY and SKIP. None of them work.

The page source of that line is:     <div>[<span id="crm-queue-runner-title"></span>]</div>

I have successfully run upgrades on a clean install from 4.4.5 to 4.5 and 4.4.6 to 4.5.  So it appears both of these issues have environmental variables that are affecting the upgrade.

@web_services - It appears your database user does not have SUPER privileges.  I don't know if it had them and lost them since your original install or why, but to run the upgrade you are going to need to restore those rights to the user account.

@Mig - Do you have any errors in the civi's logs during the time you attempt the database upgrade (found in /media/civicrm/ConfigAndLog)?  If not, when you run the upgrade do any errors appear in the browser's console?

I have discovered what had happened: I was testing the upgrade in a development environment. But I had missed some steps to make this clone of the production site, and so there were problems that I hadn't noticed before the upgrade itself.

I applied the necessary corrections to the database and configuration files, and  after testing, I ran the upgrade in the development environment and it was seamlessly succesful

So my advice is to test the upgrade in an development environment, but test this environment fully before apllying the upgrade! A good link to know more about making a clone environment is http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Moving+an+Existing+Installation+to+a+New+Server+or+Location
