Can CiviCRM Wordpress meet these requirements?
September 18, 2014, 09:02:01 am
I am a CiviCRM newbie, but I have been playing with a prototype CiviCRM + Wordpress site and reading the docs.

Can CiviCRM with Wordpress meet these requirements?

Requirements:

  • Ability to set up multiple volunteer regions (worldwide) with coordinator access to only the region assigned.
  • Automation of intake form transfer to database - used for both hand-seekers and hand-builders.
  • Some sort of check-in process for easier updating.  Makers could check in every two weeks or once a month and the record could be updated without the endless emails.
  • Tracking of other projects volunteers are involved in so we know who is doing what and where.
If it helps to know the context, I am part of enablingthefuture.org and the "cases" we handle are volunteer makers customizing and fabricating 3D printed upper limb prosthetics for underserved individuals for free, worldwide.  Also training people to build for themselves or their friends and family (often kids) who need a hand, literally.   :)  And we have hand-building and training events.

I don't need a ton of help figuring out how to do this, but you might save me some time if the above requirements require Drupal instead of Wordpress.  I would rather use Wordpress because our awesome blogger has been using Wordpress for a year now with great success, and a lot of us know and love Wordpress.

I think our most pressing needs can be met with these modules: CiviCase, CiviEvent.  Later we will probably also use CiviMail and CiviContribute.  We are not a formal membership organization, so I don't think we need CiviMember.

Thanks!
Marla

Hi Maria

Sounds like a great project.

Based on the information you've provided I would say you should be able to achieve your objectives using Civi/Wordpress.
Drupal would give you more options, for example the ability to use webforms to power up your user input channels, but I don't see anything obvious in what you've set out that would rule out Wordpress.

Thanks - I am finally able to spend some time prototyping today.

We already have a webform that feeds a spreadsheet - I hope we can modify that to feed into CiviCRM (or actually, CiviCase) instead.

Drupal webforms can do that very elegantly. To achieve the same thing in WP I think you would need to hire a developer to write custom code for you.
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.
