Generate invoices
September 23, 2014, 06:25:25 am
The idea of a module that generates invoices has been discussed repeatedly (here, here and here). There is also an (old) extentions which I haven't tested and I'm not sure if it's an official one.

But with all of this, I have the impression that an easy way to generate invoices (either to be sent by e-mail or that I can print and mail) is still lacking. Is that correct?

Might it be a possibility to create a "make it happen" campagn for this? I'd be happy to contribute to it.

In addition to your links you may also want to have a look here: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,32882.msg142090.html#msg142090

It seems as if compucorp is currently developing a very promising extension - however I did not hear anything about it for a couple of months. Please let me know if you find out anything. I can confirm that there is a great demand for the invoice feature in Germany - so we may also contribute to an extension if need be.

Regards
Fabian

Hi guys,

A quick update on VAT/Invoicing project. I put up a blog post here: https://civicrm.org/blogs/jamienovick/coming-soon-sales-tax-including-vat-and-invoicing-civicrm with some details of the project.

At the moment we are working through some bugs and working out the best way to release this more publicly so that it is best maintained. If you can hold tight for the time being I'll be back with more once we know more. What I would say is that we are not far off,

Best

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

thanks for the fast response. I am looking forward to the extension. If you let me know a little bit in advance, I could also do some beta testing. In any case, I could provide a German localization.

Best Regards
Fabian

Hi Lobo,

that's great to hear - maybe Björn (who will also be at the sprint) can contribute to the merge as well.

Have a nice CiviCon :)
Fabian

Hey Lobo, will this be merged with the 4.5 branch or into master for inclusion in 4.6?  I have a client that needs this functionality (currently using CiviTax but needs something more than it provides) and we are trying to gauge timeline.

Ok, I was pretty sure that was the case but the client is at CiviCon London and claims that it might be in 4.5.1.  Just wanted the official source to confirm :)

Hmm, don't think we ever mentioned this being in 4.5.1. The code is ready, so if u really want to merge it into 4.5 you can, but its a super large change

U can ask your client to speak to any of us at civicon London

It may have been a case of the message changing through retelling since I am getting it third party.  I told him I found it hard to believe that even if it was ready for 4.5.1 that it would be included because it was a major feature but figured since the topic came up I would confirm so I had the official word.  At the User Summit in DC we were told it would be in 4.6 as well.

Hi,

Any updates on the invoicing feature? I'm currently setting up Civi for an organisation so that people can register for an event that will happen about this time next year. They are looking to go live with the system in the next couple of weeks, and I'm currently a bit stuck trying to figure out how to do the invoicing. I can get the email receipt sent on registration to include a page that looks like an invoice, however, the invoice PDF is not saved anywhere in CiviCRM for future reference by the event organisers. And while this approach seems to work for individual registrations, I'm not sure it will work for multiple people registered at once.

I don't actually need the tax functionality, just invoices and payment receipts. Is any of this functionality available in a module for CiviCRM 4.5? Or is Civi 4.6 available for download and testing anywhere? Or is 4.6 so far from stable that this would be a bad idea? I'd really rather not reinvent the wheel, but with what's available in 4.5, I am facing the prospect of quite a lot of custom coding to get something that will do what my client wants. I'd rather work on and test something that will become part of the Civi codebase and not a one-off custom hack.

Best wishes,
-Ian

Hi,

I see now that the invoicing functionality is available in the master branch of Civi available from github. However, my instincts tell me that it's probably a bad idea to try to build a live site from such an unstable and yet-untested codebase.

Hi Michael,

Nice to hear from you, I am well. I now don't need this functionality to be live until the 15th of January, so I think at some point soon I'll install a sandbox copy of the master CiviCRM branch and I can hopefully contribute to development and debugging of the new features that I need.

Best wishes,
-Ian
