Civicase disabled and can not be enabled again

I recently upgraded to Civicrm 4.4.6 successfully. Everything was working well until I tried to alter the WordPress Access Control for a civicase function. After that, Civicase became disabled when I logged out and back in.

I tried to enable it again, but when I tried to save the change, I am directed to a page that says:

Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
DB Error: already exists


So now I am unable to access CiviCase and all my data. Please advise.

As there was no solution offered for this problem, and needing to urgently recover Civicase for our work, I took an educated guess from the debugging information that the problem was related to the "Case Resource" group. I deleted this group and Civicase began to work again.
I am not sure I entirely solved the problem but at least we could start to use the component again.

When you tried to alter the WordPress Access Control for a civicase function, did your ACL rule involve that group?
