New Relationship in 4.2: Missing Contact Search Box
September 25, 2014, 12:54:16 pm
Not sure where to post this.  But in 3.x, when you went to a contact and to Relationships, and clicked on New Relationship, right under the Relationship Type, there was a box named "Find Target Contact" which was a search box for contacts (see attached screenshot).  The user simply had to start typing the name of the contact and it would show up quickly.

In 4.2 (and maybe beyond), that box is gone.  Instead, we can only hit search and get a long list of contacts.  Even if we modify the relationship type to filter for specific contact sub-types, the list can still be pretty long (in our case, a long list of children who can be sponsored for our "Sponsor of" relationship).

Is there any way to get that search box back into that relationship area?  Any configuration I can change or add it back somehow with a hook?  It was very useful, it's a shame it's gone.

No, this didn't go away in 4.2.
And in 4.5 it's been vastly improved. Something to look forward to when you upgrade.

So, where is it exactly?  I don't see it in 4.2.19.  See attached screenshot of 4.2.

Sigh, you'd think the prospect of "vastly improved" would inspire someone to at least think about using a current version of our software.

To answer your question, it hasn't moved. Here is a screenshot I just took from http://drupal.demo42.civicrm.org/

Why is it missing from your site? I don't know. Could be interference from your theme. Could be a 3rd-party module or extension getting in the way. Could be a bit of custom code you've implemented that isn't working properly in 4.2.  Could be that it will take you hours to track down the cause, which is time that could have been better spent in upgrading to a shiny new 4.5 site.
