Is there a way to set a default value to the participant status field?

We run food distribution evet 3 time a week and all our "participant" are registered by a vonlunteer. Every one of the registering are givent the status "Registered".
It does not sound like much but the 2 clicks/ 1-2 sec. used on every registration can really add up to the vonlunteer frustration as they work to enter the very same value for every people.

Is there a way to set "Registered" as a default value in that field ?

Are you using back-office forms? I use the front end form & add cid=0 to the url to streamline data entry
