I'm wanting to email multiple contacts that aren't part of the same group and have different last names, so when I search they don't appear on the same page. As soon as I click one name and then move pages to find the next contact, I've lost the first name I selected. Is there any way, to choose multiple contacts without having them tagged or in the same group? It seems tedious to have to create groups for everything under the sun.

I recall reading some discussion, perhaps a bug issue, that indicated there are problems with selecting contacts across multiple pages of a search result set. So I suspect the answer is no -- you can't currently achieve this without create a group, at least until the contact select across multiple pages is fixed.
