Upgrade from 4.4.6 to 4.5 - Help screens do not load
October 03, 2014, 04:37:25 am
I have just upgraded from v4.4.6 to v4.5 and received the success message.  Everything went smoothly.  However I now notice that the help screens do not fully load up when the ?buttons are clicked.  Also when using the "Manage Contribution Pages" menu, in the Profiles tab, in the "Include Profile" box, only a number appears which is the ID of the relevant profile in use.  There is no option to choose a different profile, other than changing the ID number.  In v4.4.6 you could choose a profile from a drop-down menu.
I am using Wordpress.

First question, do you get any Javascript errors in your browsers console when you try to load the Help windows?  And are you running on a Windows server or Linux?

Hi Danc.  Thanks for your quick response.
I haven't noticed any Javascript errors.  The help sections start to open but do not load up with content.  My computer is running Windows 7 and our host is on Linux.

There are lots and lots of posts on this topic, and I'm hopeful the patches for 4.5.1 will solve it for most people, but I think you are another victim of improperly configured url settings. For whatever reason this seems to be getting screwed up a lot. Or maybe it's always been screwed up for lots of installs, but is more obvious in 4.5 because 4.5 depends on those settings for basic system functionality in ways that 4.4 and below didn't.

Hi again

Thanks for the replies.
Does anyone know whether I would be better to delete everything and do a fresh install of CiviCRM 4.5 in Wordpress instead of an upgrade?
At the moment, I do not have too much data in the database because I am in an experimental stage, so it would not be a problem to sacrifice it and start again.

I forgot to say earlier that in localhost, on a testing site, I have upgraded v4,4,6 to v4.5 successfully and everything seems to be functioning correctly.

Many thanks
Pete

I don't think this bug is a reason for re-installing, since you can fix it by going to Administer -> System Settings -> Resource URLs and checking that the image upload path is correct and matches up with the path set in Administer -> System Settings -> Directories.

However, if you've been messing around with other settings, experimenting with custom fields, creating junk contact records, etc (all good things to do when you're first learning Civi), then that might be a good reason for reinstalling.

Hi Coleman.  Thanks for the advice.

I have copied settings from my localhost testing and reset the  Administer -> System Settings -> Resource URLs and matched up with the path set in Administer -> System Settings -> Directories and, hey presto, the help sections have appeared.  Thank you so much.

However, I am still having problems in the Contributions menu with the "Manage Contribution Pages" , in the Profiles tab, in the "Include Profile" box where only a number appears which is the ID of the relevant profile in use.  There is no option to choose a different profile, other than changing the ID number.  In v4.4.6 you could choose a profile from a drop-down menu.  Is this a known bug in 4.5 and if so, do you know of any way to fix it?

Thanks once again.

Pete

No it's not a known bug in 4.5, rather, it's a vast improvement in 4.5 which seems to be broken on your site for some reason.
Instead of a simple dropdown menu to select a profile you should be seeing the new profile builder UI, which you can see on the demo sites. (in general the demo sites are a good "sanity" check to see what something is supposed to look like) http://wp45.demo.civicrm.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=CiviCRM (login as demo:demo).

Try clearing your caches and deleting the contents of files/templates_c directory.

Hi Coleman

I've cleaned the caches.  My directory tree is as follows:
 root /httpdocs /wp-content /plugins /files /civicrm /templates_c /en_US

Do I just delete everything after  root /httpdocs /wp-content /plugins /files /civicrm /templates_c /  ?

I notice there are other /template_c/ directories in other parts of the tree and am not clear whether they should be there.

Yes, you can just delete everything contained in the templates_c directory.  If you see multiple that's because of changing your directory pointers.  You only need to clear out the one that your currently directories point to, but I would suggest deleting the extras.

Re: Upgrade from 4.4.6 to 4.5 - Help screens do not load and missing profiles
October 04, 2014, 12:04:45 pm
After the missing help sections came back, the missing profile options in Contributions>Manage Contribution Pages>Configure Member Sign Up and Renewal>Profile,  the Profile options were still not available, except by choosing a profile ID number.

So I decided to do a completely fresh installation of v4.5 and database.  I regret to say that I still have the problem of missing Profile options on the above Contribution pages, and in fact the Profile section is completely greyed out.

Everything in root /httpdocs /wp-content /plugins /files /civicrm /templates_c / has been deleted.

Any ideas what may be causing this to happen?
Pete

It seems unlikely that the scripts are failing to work and you have no errors in your js console. Can you check again?

Hi Colemen

I'm a bit of a newbie in all this so I'm not exactly sure what you mean by js console. I'm using firefox so should I look in firefox>tools>web developer>web console>js?
If so then there is nothing appearing there, other than the words "The Web Console logging API (console.log, console.info, console.warn, console.error) has been disabled by a script on this page."

[modified later] If the js console is as I have assumed above, then I am now getting the following messages
TypeError: Backbone.Marionette is undefined crm.designerapp.js:11
TypeError: Backbone.CollectionSubset is not a constructor backbone.collectionsubset.js:225
Use of getPreventDefault() is deprecated.  Use defaultPrevented instead. notes-widget.min.js:2
Use of getPreventDefault() is deprecated.  Use defaultPrevented instead. _static:4

[modified again] just noticed that the text editor is not appearing in contribution pages and nor is the date picker.
[modified again] Have now done another fresh install (3rd time).  Old database deleted and contents of /files/ deleted. Problems are still there.  CKEditor will not load in Contribution pages, but TinyMCE does load.  Datepicker still not available.

I was having this problem on a Linux server, CiviHosting.com infact.  Attached you will find a screenshot of the "current employer" symptom as well as the URL listed in Settings and Resource URL.  Both URL seemed to be properly formed.

But the console returns the following error:
Code: [Select]
TypeError: tplURL is undefined crm.ajax.js:25
"Warning: CRM.url called before initialization" crm.ajax.js:18
TypeError: tplURL is undefined crm.ajax.js:25
"Warning: CRM.url called before initialization" crm.ajax.js:18

I had already tried: clear browser cache, logout/back in, delete templates_c...

However, when I did a "rebuild menu" this fixed my issue at last:

Thanks CiviTeacher

As I said earlier, I am a newbie with CiviCRM and I hate to admit I don't understand what to do with your suggestion.  I assume I have to run this in my browser but I'm not sure of the full URL.  I can't find a "menu" directory in my civicrm installation files.
