There are some pay-on-behalf scenarios in CiviCRM but one person paying someone else's Membership isn't one of them.
In our case some overseas members have difficulty paying directly and a random relative in the UK pays their membership each year. It would be useful to allow this to be recorded as payment on behalf of the actual member, so that the correct cheque / BACS payment details match the signatory. Has this feature been mooted before?

The only way I know of to do this is to use drupal webform-civicrm integration. This works with some (not yet all) payment processors and allows a very flexible payment-on-behalf form.

David - I agree that extending the 'on behalf of' feature so it could work for one Individual paying for another Individuals membership/donation/product would be good. Will require some funding to make this improvement in core. If you have access to funds for this then worth asking the core team for an estimate - and / or help clarify downsides of what is being mooted.
