Message Templates - Missing for printpdf - there for email

Upgrated 4.4.6 to 4.5.0
SQL  5.5.38
PHP 5.4.4-14+deb7u12

Message Templates not working in printpdf

All new and old templates can be edited.  All new and old templates populate the editor in Activity "Send an Email".

Activity "Print PDF Letter" brings up page, says "Create Printable Letter (PDF) for (contact name), "Select Template" shows name of all new and old templates.
After selecting template, editor is blank - no template loaded.  Any new text and/or tokens will print - just no template.

I've cleared the browser cache, System-Cleanup Caches and Update Paths, and deleted all files in JOOMLA_ROOT/media/civicrm/templates_c/en_us/en_us.

Any ideas?

I believe this is probably another case of the PDF problems others have seen and they are supposed to be fixed when 4.5.1 is released.

There's a really cumbersome work-around: Cut-and-paste the template every time  I print a pdf.  At least it works.

Did a fresh 4.5.0 install.  No luck.  Templates do not load in editor for print pdf letter.  Templates are visible in send an email.

I go t all excited in the sandbox - it works!  However it is 4.5.1.
