How to Send "A donation was made in your honor" Email

I'm using CiviCRM 4.5.0 on Drupal 7.31.

Client wants to send email like this (the token names are faux token names, please don't use the following in a template).

Dear {honoree},

I'm writing to let you know that {contributor_full_name} has made a donation in your honor to our organization in the amount of {contribution_amount}.

Sincerely,

Joe Smith
Executive Director

How might I recommend to my client to achieve this?

Hmmm, I don't think that honeree / soft credit tokens are implemented in core. If that is indeed the case, then you might be looking at a custom extension to provide this functionality.

I know that people thought that soft credit tokens would be hard to implement, since one person can potentially have more than one soft credit.

You might want to contact those people involved with the recent improvements to soft credits for their opinions, see http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Soft+Credit+Enhancements and similar pages (google should help).

Since it is generic, and given the work that has been done recently to improve soft credits, it is potentially something that could be rolled into core at some point, but that is another conversation :)
