Forms vs Page
October 08, 2014, 08:28:04 am
I'm just now starting to work with forms and I'm trying to understand the correct approach to my specific needs...

I'm developing an extension to manage small groups. There will be several inputs on the page that will determine what the user actually sees. For example, you can select a small group which will then display a list of all the members within that group along with options to set a meeting date and record attendance.

Is this something that I should be building on a form, or should I be creating a page and somehow "embedding" forms in the page? I'm starting to believe that it should be done on a form.

I guess I'm just a little confused on what the best approach is to adding "forms" to what I would call a "page"? Is there a way to build a form directly in a page (besides using a snippet)?

I appreciate any insight!

Hi Lee

I've been meaning to get in touch anyway as I was screen-sharing with a Vancouver church last week and wanted to chat to you on the back of that. Our developer James has done a fair bit of work on small groups and we currently have views which allow group leaders to login, see the people in their group, email their group from that page and also log a meeting date and record attendance.

I will email you with James' email so that you can talk directly to him as it'd be great to work together further on this functionality and see the ability to manage small groups released as a Civi extension. Let's try to chat and screenshare early next week and we can then keep updating on progress here. Will email you now.

Lindsey
