Will CiviCRM + WordPress Work for Us? [SOLVED]
October 11, 2014, 06:33:11 am
      Hello,

We are currently using vTiger CRM, but are very anxious to move to WordPress + CiviCRM. I have installed WordPress and CiviCRM, but I have not quite yet figured out how to do things the way I need them. I'm not sure if WordPress + CiviCRM is simply not going to work for this purpose or if I just need to configure things properly. Here's what we need:

      • Have contacts and organizations. Contacts are teachers (stored fields are first name, last name, grade taught, subject taught, relationship with organization). Organizations are schools (stored fields are school name, address, city, state, zip code). Can teachers be matched with a school so that you can click on a school (organization) and see all the teachers that are teaching at that school?
      • Ability to export CSV list of all contacts names and addresses (even though addresses are not stored within each contact but rather the organization they have a relationship with)
      [/li]
Allow users to register on website and directly edit their own personal information.[/li]

I'm truly hoping WordPress + CiviCRM will work for us. Thanks.

Hello,

There will need to be a little bit of set up done but I don't see anything mentioned that isn't possible in CiviCRM.  For your teachers, you will need to set up some custom fields for grade taught and subject taught.  For the relationship with the school, that is doable through the relationship system that comes with Civi, you might want to setup some custom relationships though.  For connecting the address, you can use shared addresses and I believe you will be able to export those to a CSV like it was their own (although someone might need to correct me on that as I haven't tried it).  Registration is possible and editing personal information has a couple different options for allowing that, I would suggest making sure everyone has a login to the Wordpress site though.
