Free memberships changed for 4.5?

We have both paid memberships and free memberships. We use the free memberships for inquiries.

My last successful free inquiry was on September 24th. Just after this I upgraded to 4.5.0. (I still need to upgrade to 4.5.1).

The way they used to work is that a contact would be created with a membership as current and no associated payment would be created. The September 24th membership is this way.

Now when I test it I get a contact created, a pending payment (of 0$) and no membership at all - not even a pending membership.

I don't see this as an issue in the forum, nor I have I found a bug reported - but I'm positive I haven't changed any settings for this membership.

The free membership is set having a $0 payment with no payment processor selected, "Execute real time monetary ..." is unchecked, "membership Section Enabled" is selected,  I'm running 4.5.0 with Joomla 2.5.27.

I just tested it on the civicrm demo site and it worked they way my site used to work. The demo site however is at 4.4.6.

Can someone who has a free membership option please let me know if it works with 4.5.0 or 4.5.1?

I was partially incorrect. There is already a bug for this: https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/i#browse/CRM-14968

However if I'm reading the bug correctly it should be part of 4.5.0 already? I've taken a look at the checkins for the changes to Membership.php and it looks like my install includes these corrections?

Is anyone able to try a free membership with 4.5.0 or 4.5.1? How often do they update the demo site?

I just tried it with the drupal 4.5.2 (beta) site at http://d45.demo.civicrm.org/

It did the same thing. The error is still here and the bug 14968 probably shouldn't have been closed. If I don't get any other guidance here I'm going to reopen or recreate a bug.

Of note on 4.5.2 is that I also got an error:

Error message:
•Notice: Undefined index: pay_later_receipt in CRM_Contribute_Form_Contribution_Confirm->preProcess() (line 269 of /srv/buildkit/build/d45/sites/all/modules/civicrm/CRM/Contribute/Form/Contribution/Confirm.php).
•Notice: Undefined offset: 1 in CRM_Member_BAO_Membership::postProcessMembership() (line 1285 of /srv/buildkit/build/d45/sites/all/modules/civicrm/CRM/Member/BAO/Membership.php).
•Notice: Undefined index: pay_later_receipt in CRM_Contribute_Form_Contribution_ThankYou->preProcess() (line 73 of /srv/buildkit/build/d45/sites/all/modules/civicrm/CRM/Contribute/Form/Contribution/ThankYou.php).

I'll try this again with 4.5.0 on my server with logging turned up and see if I get any errors.

Anyone else see this problem? Or even better is anyone running post 4.5.0 and has free memberships working correctly?

The original bug has been reopened and is being resolved for 4.5.3.

Thanks to David Greenberg and Jitendra Purohit for reopening the bug and resolving this. I couldn't even figure out how to reopen the bug!

I just tried to make a financial contribution as thanks - but https://civicrm.org/contribute seems to be broken? After I select the country I am unable to select the state. (the in-progress spinner just keeps going). I'll post this problem in the proper forum.
