Adding a "New Event Template" causes user logout
October 17, 2014, 03:26:56 pm
We are running CiviCRM 4.5.2 on WordPress 4.0. I am accessing the site in Windows 8.1 with Chrome version 38.0.2125.104 m.

In the "Add Event Template" screen (accessed from "Add Event Template" button on Events>>Event Templates, when this form is filled out and I click "Continue>>," I am redirected to the wp-login page and apparently logged out.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

Our WP CiviCRM site was originally set up on a different sub-domain and moved to the current one shortly after setup.

When you moved the site, did you change the base URL defined in the civicrm.settings.php file?  Typically the base url being incorrect is the cause of this problem.  It can be something as simple as the base URL being http://www.mydomain.com and you visiting http://mydomain.com.

Thanks for the reply danc:

I located the file civicrm.settings.php in wp-content>>plugins>>civicrm, opened the file, searched for the old base URL (it was, in fact, the old subdomain), changed that entry to the new base URL, but the same problem persists. Do I need to re-load the civicrm.settings.php file somehow?

UPDATE:

I believe the source of the issue is as danc suspected in that I changed the base URL as I now realize that most of the CiviCRM backend functions cause a logout.

I will search the forums for a solution to this, however, I would also appreciate if someone could point me to a post or documentation on how to properly change the base URL.

You should also then clear the caches, delete the contents of the template_c folder, and then you can also check Administer-->System Settings-->Resource URLs.

It also isn't usually related to this problem in my experience, but you should verify that the file paths in civicrm.settings.php and civicrm.config.php are correct for your live site, and you can delete the config.IDS.ini file in the ConfigAndLog folder.

Hey Danc, thanks for the replies.

After my last post, and with new direction from danc's comments, I went a searching. I found this regarding moving a site to a different domain:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Moving+an+Existing+Installation+to+a+New+Server+or+Location

Wow... moving a domain with CiviCRM is not a simple task.

A part of the instructions in the link is re-installing CiviCRM, so since I had *just* installed, I decided to simply abandon the first install and do a fresh install on the new sub-domain.

That also works  ;D

It is a bit of work to move it but it's not any worse than most CMS' and other open source packages.
