Duplicate Activity Created when Editing Event - bug or user issue?
October 21, 2014, 08:40:32 am
I'm trying to determine if this is a bug or not.   I have tested in Civi 4.5.2 and older versions and the Civi Demo site as well.
I'm using WordPress.

When I edit an Event Registration from the Events tab I get a duplicate Activity.     The steps I take are:
1.  Select Edit on an Event listed in the Events tab of a contact.
2.  Change the Participant Status from Registered to Attended and click Save.
3.  I will notice that the Activities tab total increases by 1
4.  When going to the Activities tab I will notice duplicate "Event Registration" types for the Event that was edited.

Is this the way it is suppose to work?

This sounds a lot like the issue solved by https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-9438, but for events.

In short: It's almost certainly intentional that an activity is recorded, to indicate that someone's event status has been updated.  However, Civi is not currently distinguishing between "Event Registration" and "Event Status Update" as two different activity types.  Prior to Civi 4.2, this was also the case for membership statuses, but the fix in the issue linked above fixed it for memberships.

I think it'd be reasonable to submit a feature request for this.  However, given the limited resources of the Civi team, they're likely to be unable to implement this without funding or someone writing the patch.  It'd be a good enhancement though!

THANKS for the reply.  The more I've studied this and tested.... maybe it is suppose to work this way.  The original Activity keeps the Subject as "....Attendee - Registered" and then the updated one has the subject as "...Attendee - Attended"   So it's kinda a History of the Registration and the Completion of the Event.
