Contact address not saved
October 21, 2014, 11:34:44 pm
I am evaluating CiviCRM and am having a fairly basic issue. When I view a contact, edit their home (or main) address and save -- the edit is not saved. The street address, city and postal code are blank. The state is correct. I've edited from both the summary screen and the edit screen. I've added a second address and it fails to save as well.

No error messages are given. The change log shows I've edited the record.

I've turned off the USPS address verification just in case but it still doesn't work.

This is with the most recent CiviCRM married to the most recent Wordpress.

I'm trying to imagine what set of circumstances could lead to this happening, but I don't have many ideas.

One thought - does it matter if you use inline editing versus using the "Edit" screen?  That is, if I click on the address block of the summary screen, I'm using inline editing - but if I use the "Edit" button at the top, it's the edit screen.

I'm imagining some scenario in which there's some sort of conflict with Javascript of a Wordpress extension you have installed.  Is this a site you built specifically to test CiviCRM?  Or does it have a bunch of other extensions installed?

If you try editing something other than address (say, job title), do you have the same issue?

I actually tried both edit locations and the results were the same. The street address, city, and postal code were not saved.

I'm using a stock WordPress install with two plugins activated: CiviCRM and Meta Slider (a slideshow plugin.)

I did edit the job title and employer for this same contact and both did save properly.

I would double check that the USPS verification is disabled since that would potentially intervene in address saving.

Thanks, Dave. Even though I'd set the address standardization provider to "- Select -", it reverted to USPS. Apparently I had to also clear the user ID and URL fields.

My address got saved. I am still disappointed that no error message was given.

Agreed (re: no error message). Would be great if you could debug a bit and figure out a fix to ensure an error is thrown.

Separately - we have had very few (if any) orgs successfully apply for and use the USPS mechanism for address verification (and it may make sense to deprecate or remove it at some point). I saw a demo at the DC User Summit of a CiviCRM => SmartyStreets extension, which does real time address verification and correction (inside the edit forms). I'm not sure if it's ready for production - although I think AGH Strategies (the developer) has clients using it. You might want to check it out:
