1. i was wondering if there's a way to do an advance search and instead of having  all the items as an AND have it as an OR
2. When creating smart groups.. can  i have more then one condition.. for ex. i search for "state = ny" add them to a smart group called " metro area"  now i want to do a search for "state = nj" and add them aswell to the same metro area smart group.

You can use Search Build to construct searches that use both AND and OR.
