Import memberships
October 27, 2014, 08:57:50 am
I am trying to import memberships with a csv file. This is an update of existing membership and not inserting new membership.

When I get to step 2, I am required to put in a Membership ID. But ... I do  not have one of these as we use the CiviCRM ID as our membership number.

I get stuck at this point as I cannot use the unique CiviCRM ID (it is not available in the list) and I do not have a Membership ID.

Any suggestion on how to generate a Membership ID (which I don't need) or, better still, how to use the CiviCRM ID.

Thanks.

Someone may suggest a direct route - but meanwhile - if you were to just import the contact id  - and create a new group for those contacts - then export the membership id for the contacts in that group, you can then do the import you desire.

I think civi import will always require the mid since the cid<->mid is not a one to one relationship.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried a simple route. Created a custom field. Exported all the contacts. Coped cid into the new field called mid. Let's see what happens.

sounds unlikely but i may be misreading

the import will match the mid in your csv to the mid of the existing membership

hence my suggestion you export your cid and mid - then add your mids to your import - and forget about the cids.
