Settings Not Saving
October 27, 2014, 03:48:28 pm
I just migrated my development upgrade to the production site. Changed all the Resource URLs. It is all populated and appears working. Except, when I make a setting change none of the settings screens show that change despite the toaster pop-up stating the changes were saved successfully.

Please advise.

Seems unlikely that would be the only thing amiss if something went wrong in your migration. Try poking around a bit more. Do popup forms work? Does saving contacts, tags, etc work?

Thanks guys. No, no edits to records and the like are being saved.

Coleman, I've been poking around but I need a little more information as to where to poke.

Hershel, hmmm...seems that the original entries did get truncated to N;. I once again like you suggested made it NULL, emptied templates_c/en_US and refreshed the screen.

Works!!! This is very weird. I will have to monitor it to see if it reverts back to N; again.

What would the reason be for that?

Yes, that file will always come right back.

Perhaps try re-installing into a tmp database, to make sure your civicrm.settings.php is right.

having this same issue mysef. I also deleted the templates_c/en_us folder, cleared caches, put "NULL" into the civicrm_domain table. Still won't allow me to save any of the settings.

As the OP I cannot save changes to any of my settings... Is there something else I might try?

Thanks!

+1 on this issue. In my case, I specifically cannot save these system settings: Misc (Undelete, PDFs, Limits, Logging, Captcha, etc.) Like the other posters, I get the toaster message that changes saved successfully but when I reopen the config page in question, they didn't.
All other settings save just fine. So do contacts, memberships, etc.

I have entered "NULL" in the config_backend field in the civicrm_domain table per the suggestion from the thread mentioned above in one of the answers. However, if I go into one of the config screens (e.g. the Misc one) and save, this field value gets reverted back to "N;" in the d/b.

Thanks a lot for any pointers. (I know, I know, I'm double-posting... but the other thread was from 2013 so shame on me for not seeing that initially - looks like this one is fresher so am adding to here - sorry about that.)

EDIT: I feel like a total (fill in the blank) ... burning the midnight oil I was sheepishly entering "NULL" rather than just clearing the config_backend field value; I also cleared the "en_us" template folder - I'll post the full path (for Joomla at least) as I did not see it above: public_html/media/civicrm/templates_c/en_us

Hopefully my mistake will help someone in the future ;-) Thank you, community volunteers, for helping others in this forum.

Don't put the word Null in that field, you need to make the value null.  If you are using Phpmyadmin there is a check box when you edit the row to mark that field as null.  If you are doing it from the command line you would use a query like this:

Code: [Select]
UPDATE your_table
SET    your_column = NULL
WHERE  some_id = 1;

Note the lack of quotes around the null.

Did all these things. Still not saving settings...  :'(

EDIT - Dry your tears! All is well. Maybe you need first to rm -rf the templates_c/ folder and *then* add the NULL to the database. I'm not sure. Anyways I did it a few times and eventually it came good. Fwiw I also added NULL value to the locales row of the civicrm_domain table and removed the locale_custom_strings because I was primarily trying to save Localization Settings. The latter repopulates itself so its not a big deal as far as I can see.

Note - i'm not an expert on this - the above is trial and error. I'm just documenting all that I did in case anyone else reads. None of the above broke my installation in any way.
