Public listing of contacts

We are planning on maintaining a list of local Non profit Arts Organizations. We would like to make this list available to the general public without them having to log-in to the site. Is this possible?
I'm getting access denied errors on a public page.

Are you using a profile to achieve this?

also note if this is a Drupal install then Views can prove a more flexible route for displaying such data

Yes, I'm using a Profile to do this. I also added Anonymous User to view profiles and contact info in the  Wordpress Access Control setting in Civicrm.

Still no joy with this function, not sure what to do now.

Do you have any custom fields in the profile?  If so you will also need to give the anonymous role Access all custom data.

Yes I have that set.

If I'm not logged in to wordpress I'm now getting this error

"Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
Could not find the required contact id parameter (id=) for viewing a contact record with a Profile."

have you compared the url you are using with an equivalent one you can generate on WP demo site?

Also, be very careful with giving profile permissions to anonymous users. It can be done safely but I have seen quite a few sites where different permission combinations have been tried until one of them was successful, but that have inadvertently exposed lots of private data in the process.

Even when Log-in as an Admin I'm getting

Permission Denied You do not have permission to view this contact record. Contact the site administrator if you need assistance.

» Back to Listings     
When I click on Back to Listing is shows all of the contacts in the Group I have the Profile setup for.

And there you have it Micheal,

This should not be rocket science.
The manual alludes to the fact that, Contact info can be viewed by Visitors to the site without logging-in yet there is no clear How To anywhere.

But, thanks I will review the settings again if I get it working.

hsaca - i take it you are familiar with http://book.civicrm.org/user/current/initial-set-up/permissions-and-access-control/

I see it lists the 'default' permissions in case an admin opens up too much and needs to reset to basic

and as for my comment of 'compare urls' i meant, what is an example of the url on your site, and what do you get if you use the equivalent on the WP demo site.

I just noticed that on the Demo Site > Profile Config page > Clicking on More it shows "Use Profile-Create Mode" and "Use Profile-Listing Mode"
On my installation I only have "Use Profile Create Mode"

Did I miss a setting somewhere is is this a 4.5 only function?

This is my problem as well.  I have set the correct permissions but my profiles only show: " Use Profile-Create Mode"

There is no "Use Profile-Listing Option"
