Can't match fields in mapping
November 03, 2014, 11:26:41 am
I'm trying to import a CSV file with the following fields:

First Name, Last Name, Title, Agency, Street Address 1, Address 2, PO Box,   City,   State, Zip, E-Mail, Type, Jurisdiction

Everything maps fine except "Agency."  If I choose "Individual" as my contact type, I have no field to which to map "Agency," because "Current Employer" is not in the list of fields to choose from.  If I choose "Organization" as my contact type, I don't get first name, last name, etc.  (I created custom Individual data fields for Type and Jurisdiction.)

How should I get my data from CSV into Civi?

I'm dealing with the same struggle, so take this with a grain of salt:

If you only want to capture the agency name (but not necessarily the agency address, etc. separately from the  contact)  then way at the bottom of the 'matching civicrm field' drop down box is an option for '- related contact info -' and this includes 'employee of' field.  Linking the 'Agency' column to 'Employee of' and then 'Organization Name' field should get you started in the right direction
