My users are asking if I can provide full-text search which uses a profile for displaying results.

Currently I have a profile set up which users are using for search. However, they want to use the free text search feature (provided in a block) as the main way of doing searches, as they have custom fields with data in they want to search on. I want them to carry on using the same profile as it restricts results to a particular group and also limits the fields which are displayed. Is it possible to have both?

Drupal views turned out to be a godsend, thanks. I ran into trouble early on because my Drupal DB user is different from my Civi DB user, but a privileges change fixed that. Once that was out of the way everything worked fine. I'm now working on styling the view nicely, a much more fun problem to have than the one I had before.
