Install not working
November 07, 2014, 02:31:22 pm
I have downloaded the latest version of Civi and when I try to use the installer to install the tar file it just thinks for a bit and it looks like it is loading it, but then nothing happens. Its like it is trying to download it, but then it quits. Any ideas why it would not install?

I would recommend you manually unpack the files and then run the CiviCRM Installer (not the regular Drupal module install method) or if this is an upgrade, run the CiviCRM Upgrade script (again not the regular Drupal upgrade tool).

I am also having CiviCRM + Drupal install problems today. The recommended CiviCRM install instructions for Drupal in help are not working; the install just does nothing, no module is installed. I think the CiviCRM book should be edited with new instructions until this is fixed.

Where should the CiviCRM .gz file be placed before extraction? My drupal installation is at /drupal. Then what exactly do I do? Please explain like I'm five :+>

Put the CiviCRM archive file (the .gz file) in

/drupal/sites/all/modules

Then unpack it using your Control Panel or using:

tar -xzf CIVICRM_FILE.tar.gz

using the real name of the CiviCRM archive file of course.

Check now that you have a new directory called

/drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm

If so, then run the installer via

mysite.com//sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/index.php

TY I got it to install after 3 tries. Where is the link to CiviCRM admin in Drupal? When I installed on Wordpress there was an easy to find menu item.

I would expect to find it to the right on the drupal Admin Menu (black menu across top of page)

The CiviCRM menu item appears for me in the Navigation menu in the middle left side of the page under the "Add content" link. It did not show up right after installation, but when I logged in the next day it was there. I was as if an app needed to be restarted in order to show the new menu item. (I am coming from the asp.net/iis world and don't know how apache apps work.) So I am now up and running.
