Which Contact is the Duplicate?

If I am finding and merging duplicate contacts using the 'Name and Address(Reserved)' rule, how does CiviCRM decide which contact is the duplicate, i.e. which contact is Contact 1 on the left and which is  Contact 2 (Duplicate) on the right?

It's pretty simple, whichever contact was in the db first is considered "original" so whoever has the higher contact_id is considered the duplicate.
If that doesn't work in some situations you can always click the "Flip between original and duplicate" button.
