Self Serve Membership - Joomla
November 16, 2014, 02:28:24 am
Hi,

Joomla      3.3
CiviCRM    4.5
mySQL     5.1.73
PHP          5.3.29

I know Joomla very well.   Brand new to CiviCRM.

I am just playing around and already got stuck.   I wish to start by providing a Joomla page to allow users to sign up for membership.   I can forget about payments for now, that will come later as will a host of custom fields.

Once a member is created, I wish them to be able to login and access other pages.  I am confused if membership is the same as creating a Joomla account, but can't get as far to even test this.

I have a fresh Joomla install, and successfully installed CiviCRM.  I have gone through the config checklist and all looks good.  I have followed the instructions at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Configure+Online+Contribution+Pages+for+Membership+Signup+and+Renewal

I configured by:
- created a membership organisation
- created a profile.  This is shown as Type Membership and Used For CiviContribute.
- created a membership linked to my membership organisation
- created a contribution page linked to my membership
- created a menu item of type Contribution Page
- Selected against that menu item my contribution page

When I click on the menu item, I get a not found page (full message posted at end).

I have looked at the demo site but these use hypertext links rather than menu items and I can't work out how these have been created.

So any pointers?   What have I missed?   I'd love to be able to get this working.

Appreciate help from this first post but maybe I have completely the wrong end of the stick on this :-)

PS:   This is the URL that Joomla is attempting to go to...  index.php?option=com_civicrm&view=Contributions

Doesn't look at all right does it lol.

OK - being thick!   Didn't read the error message properly - sorted and page now shows.

I'm also starting down the Joomla & Civi path, am pretty experienced withy Joomla.  Any words of wisdom, or mental models I'll need to develop to make the civi integration and usage go smoothly?
