Problems upgrading to 4.5.3 (from 4.4.x)
November 17, 2014, 08:56:07 am
I made 2 unsuccessfull trials :

First trial :
- desactivated civicrm webform integration Module, but not CiviCRM itself
- deleted drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm directory
- installed civicrm-4.5.3-drupal.tar.gz from my PC (just like a new Drupal Module, from the Drupal/Modules page) : no problem
When I click CiviCRM, in the Drupal Home page :
- I get a funny Civi front page
- the menu is displayed in english, but I get only the Configuration page, wherever I click in.

Second Trial :
- desactivated civicrm webform integration Module, but not CiviCRM itself
- deleted drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm directory
- installed civicrm-4.5.3-drupal.tar.gz from my PC (just like a new Drupal Module, from the Drupal/Modules page) : no problem
For (french) localisation, I did not find any civicrm-l10n.tar.gz file on sourceforge, so I copied :
- my old l10n to the new civicrm directory
- my old sql content to the new one (except more recent files)

Then test :
- when I clic CiviCRM in the Drupal home page, I get a bizarre CiviCRM Front Page, and the CiviCRM menu is not displayed any more
- Then, I desactivated the CiviCRM Module and then, reactivated it : I get a "DB Error : no such field", and cannot activate it any more

FYI, I have 2 separate DBs (Drupal and Civi)

You must run the upgrade script. Please see our wiki

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+4.5+-+Drupal+7

for directions how to upgrade CiviCRM.

I did follow this script, but probably missed sth.

Now I re-uploaded my old version (previously saved on my PC : everything under www) and have new troubles :
- CiviCRM menu cannot be accessed (no more CiviCRM link in Drupal block) except when I access my (admin) account in CiviCRM (then, the CiviCRM menu is displayed)
- some infos have desappeared from my WebForm profile (First Name, Last Name : Prénom and Nom in french), while others are correctly displayed
- those desappeared infos are correctly displayed in my CiviCRM account

I am now ready to reinstall my site from scratch (preferably keeping my Drupal and CiviCRM Databases if possible ; but I saved a dump, in case), but I fear some new troubles with my hosting (shared server).

Please Help !

You can add a link to CiviCRM in your menus if you want.

Regarding the Webform profile issue, I'm not sure. Perhaps just put them back?

Adding a link to CiviCRM works, but I would like to understand why this link does not appear any more in the lateral block

Regarding the Webform profile issue, everything seems now OK without doing anything (???)

I just have upgraded Drupal to 7.34 (but my CiviCRM is still in 4.4.2 : I fear upgrading)
Question about upgrading CiviCRM :
- Yesterday, I was suggested to upgrade to 4.5.3
- Today, it's not any more 4.5.3, but 4.4.10
- And I see now still a new version (4.5.4) on the CiviCRM site (https://civicrm.org/download)
What would you suggest ? (still wait ?)

CiviCRM 4.5 is fairly new and point releases that fix (mostly edge-case) bugs have been coming out as often as every 2 weeks.  If you want the version of CiviCRM with the most features you should upgrade to 4.5.4.

CiviCRM 4.4 has been around for over 12 months now and is being maintained by the community as the LTS version.  The latest version is 4.4.10.  If you want to stick with the 4.4 series instead of moving to the 4.5 series you should upgrade to 4.4.10.

See https://civicrm.org/versions for more information.

If you go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/civicrm/files/civicrm-stable/ and click on the version you're upgrading to, you should find it in there.

Isn't it suggested to upgrade to the latest 4.4 (if that's what you're currently on) and then 4.5?

Thank you all
I'll take some time to think about it.

Isn't it suggested to upgrade to the latest 4.4 (if that's what you're currently on) and then 4.5?

That's not necessary. The upgrader is meant to work to go from any old version to any newer version.
