Schedule for version 4.6.x
November 17, 2014, 02:38:54 pm
Since there is already a public sandbox for version 4.6. alpha1, ( http://dmaster.demo.civicrm.org/)  wondering if there is any estimate when the next alpha version will be ready (and also any estimates as to when a stable version will be ready)

So far version 4.6 alpha1 looks great.

The current plan is for 4.6 to be a small/quick release-cycle with 4.6.alpha1 targeted in mid-December.

(Aside: The sandbox site "dmaster.demo.civicrm.org" tracks the git "master" branch rather than the actual releases, so its version number will usually be ahead of the actual tarballs releases. In this case, the footer on dmaster self-identifies as 4.6.alpha1 even though 4.6.alpha1 has not been released as a tarball. This would be true whether 4.6 aimed to be a short release-cycle or a long release-cycle.)

Tangential point - During the UK sprint, we reorganized some of the demo sites ( https://civicrm.org/sandboxes ). They follow a convention like this:

 * dmaster.demo.civicrm.org ==> Drupal with Civi's "master" branch
 * d45.demo.civicrm.org ==> Drupal with Civi's "4.5" branch
 * d44.demo.civicrm.org ==> Drupal with Civi's "4.4" branch
 * wpmaster.demo.civicrm.org ==> WordPress with Civi's "master" branch
 * wp45.demo.civicrm.org ==> WordPress with Civi's "4.5" branch
 * wp44.demo.civicrm.org ==> WordPress with Civi's "4.4" branch

If 4.6 Alpha1 is released by Dec. 15, then when would you predict the first stable version ( ie 4.6.0 ) will be released?

I try not to make predictions. ::)

From my perspective, it would be a pleasant surprise if 4.6.0 went out as early as mid-Jan and a disappointment if it went out as late as April.
