custom fields in smart groups - edit smart group criteria

Am I just missing it, or is there no place in "edit smart group criteria" to change or add custom fields in the search query?

I can create a smart group from an advanced search that references custom fields from profiles, but when I go to edit the smart group criteria, those fields are not available?

Edit your custom field and ensure it is marked as "searchable"

I will take this opportunity to re-iterate my request that 'searchable' is the default

if i did a survey across the many thousands of fields we or our clients have made, the overwhelming majority of them need to be searchable.

should i make a 'poll' for this issue?
