Hi all!
I'm wondering if any of you have dealt with recording refunds or paid outs in Civi. Our organization has "membership interests" (sometimes referred to as shares) which are actually equity contributions to our company. This is equity that our members actually own, therefore they can apply to have it repurchased by us (i.e. refunded). How would you show that payout in Civi? I don't want to delete the contribution but I want to see the equity contribution go down to zero. Do any of you have experience with this?

You can enter negative contributions in CiviCRM.

However depending on what else you are using Civi for, perhaps you could set your equity up as a membership type with very long duration.

When someone contributes equity they would get an "equity" membership, when you repaid their equity as well as recording a negative contribution you would set the membership to expired. This would give you the "at a glance" infomation on their summary screen that they had no equity because they would have no membership. Just using contributions would require you to look in detail at the contributions tab.
