Searching only certain contact types
November 19, 2014, 07:38:31 am
Hello,

Hopefully someone can help me with what I hope is an easy question that I cannot seem to find the solution to. I am trying to find a way to make certain search boxes (ie the find contacts in the top left or assigned to under activities) only search certain contact types (individual not organizations) is there a way to accomplish this?

Thanks

David

Hi David,

just use the advanced search (>>Search >>Advance search). There is a field "Contact Type(s)" - just select the kind of contacts you would like to find.

Regards
Fabian

I think your question is specifically about autocompletes.

For the top-left search box you can sort of achieve this by selecting "last name" or "first name" as your search field. This will only get individuals, since those fields don't exist for other contact types.

For other ContactRef fields (e.g. the activity assignee) it's my goal to add this feature in 4.6. (time permitting)

Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

Great - That is exactly what I was looking for.
