mailing list signup profile

what profile does mailing list signup use and can I modify that profile to add more than Email

Or do I need just to create a separate group

hi - unless someone has already set something up on your site, there is no pre-set 'mail sign up' afaik (but it may be i am overlooking the obivous)

help us help you by giving some more details/ulrs - how do people sign up on your site?

in general you can just make your own profile with any fields you like, and in the Adv Settings of the Profile, add everyone to the Group you want to use as your mailing list.

if you have multiple groups, then you need to have set them to be available on Public Pages eg like this one

http://d45.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/group?reset=1&action=update&id=2

and then include Contacts > Groups in your Profile as a Field as I have done here - hopefully you see it before the system flushes.

You will notice that all the Groups that are set to Public Pages now show as a Field

http://d45.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/uf/group/field?reset=1&new=1&gid=15&action=browse

Your Demo URL's I get accessed denied ..

There is a default mailing list option in Civi which exposes any group that you select mailing list and view on public pages - it is double opt in as well
Example of what is produced is here ...

the only field is email and I would just like to add something to the profile --

Understand I can make a profile and use adv setting - it just seems easier to figure out what profile Civi is using and add to it ..

Civi 4.5.3 on Joomla 3.x

demo sites usually state somewhere relatively clearly to use demo / demo to login . if that is not the case it needs fixing
