pdf letters not being produced

I want to send pdf letters for our annual appeal.  When I click "make pdf letters" I'm taken to a blank screen.  Is there something I should be doing differently?

Can you explain what you have done prior to clicking on "make pdf letters"?

A blank screen generally means some kind of error. Can you check your webserver logs and also the CiviCRM log (under files/civicrm/ConfigAndLog directory).

Some mail templates print to pdf just fine.  Only the simplest templates (may have an image and less than 3 or 4 mail tokens)  will print to pdf.
It's not the image stopping the printing.
Is there another method I can use to generate pdf letters, e.g. different "generator" (probably not the right term) I could set up in civicrm?

you should try using wkhtmltopdf. You can set pdf to this generator in the admin section

it could be that the font settings in your template/pdf letter text is breaking the pdf generator.
