New install; can't find the CiviCRM dashboard
November 22, 2014, 03:32:37 pm
Just installed Drupal 7.34, and CiviCRM 4.5.4. It was difficult since the automatic install is completely broken.

Perhaps my new install failed in some way. I can't find a way to navigate to the CiviCRM dashboard anywhere. There are no links to it.

Specific, detailed bug reports are always more helpful and welcome than vague complaints. CiviCRM is a community effort - let's help each other to make it better. Also, I don't think "completely broken" aptly describes the installer, CiviCRM is installed successfully by lots of people every day.

Have you tried navigating to http://yoursite.org/civicrm ? If that gives a "not found" error then indeed CiviCRM has not been properly installed. Did you follow the instructions?

Sorry don't interpret my harshness in posts as disliking the project, I am working hard to get this working for the organization; I have been a software engineer too long and am pretty direct. I have already posted bugs on the tracking system. I have only worked with this for about a week.

I have installed Dupal at /drupal, so are you saying go to /drupal/civicrm? That gives me a 404 error.

I have tried to study the demo install of civicrm on drupal, and I can't figure it out, and the version there is not what you see on your own install of drupal. There are no links, and I can't find any php pages that work when looking through the directories on my install. I just want to get to the dashboard. Never having seen an install of this on drupal I don't even know where to expect the link.

One bug I see is that the membership_type table is empty. So there is a problem with the database part of the install. I did get the installation success message from the installation page (step 4). None of the auto install instructions worked for me, and upon others advice I did a manual install.

The automatic install is not working for some people, let's just say that much.

The install on wordpress was easy, and civicrm had a link in the admin menu. But due to some limitations on features in wordpress I want to test on drupal.

Okay I have installed drupal and civicrm on 2 computers now and get the same errors. After a manual install I can get as far as this error:

Home » Administration » Configuration » CiviCRM >> CiviMember Roles Sync >> List Association Rules

"CiviMember Membership Types or Status Rules have not been configured. Please do so on the "Administer CiviCRM" page."

I can see that the membership_types table was never populated with the default data as it was on wordpress. I've searched hi and lo and can't find any link for an "Administer CiviCRM" page. Would love to find it. Any advice appreciated.

When you visit a CiviCRM page, do you see the black dropdown menus at the top? In the far right one is the Admin section.

I have finally seen a CivCRM menu on the default Drupal home page. Its in the Navigation menu near the center of the page. I swear it wasn't there before, all I saw was the add new content link. I think I might have missed some post-install instruction before but don't know. I can now get to the CiviCRM dashboard. Maybe the Drupal app had to be recycled overnight or something for this to happen.
