Using HTML in Contribution Receipts
May 27, 2008, 04:09:07 pm
Has there been any discussion about changing the contribution email receipts to enable html? The auto generated receipts aren't that attractive, and there are line break issues with Outlook users. Is the issue with using the tpl files to generate the email content?

This has come up a few times, but i dont think it has been important enough for anyone (as yet) to submit a patch

i think we'd probably want to send it as a mime message (or make that configurable) and send both the text and html pieces. we have most of the code for this already, so I dont think this is a big deal. If we do this, we should also do it for event registration and any other pieces that send email.

You should add it to the 2.2 roadmap on the wiki

I've added it to the 2.2 roadmap.

As a quick fix, changing line 140 of CRM/Utils/Mail.php to text/html allows the inclusion of html tags. Obviously doesn't include a text version mime attachment, but meets my immediate needs (not sure how necessary a text attachment is these days anyway).

We are upgrading to 3.1.4 and I have noticed that you do not recommend using HTML in the receipt message.

Enter a message you want included at the beginning of emailed receipts. NOTE: This text will be included in both TEXT and HTML versions of receipt emails so we do not recommend including HTML tags / formatting here.

This is unfortunate as we would like to have a better looking receipt email go out. Is anyone doing work on this?

How do you set it to send HTML receipts though? I've customised the HTML templates but it always sends in plain text. Using 3.4.5.
