Button style on CiviCRM Home page has changed
November 28, 2014, 03:57:53 pm
I noticed on the CiviCRM Home page that the button style has changed for the Configure Your Dashboard, and Refresh Dashboard Data buttons, and the style doesn't match other civi buttons.

I've attached a screenshot from the sandbox (4.5) that shows the Configure Your Dashboard button.  Notice how it differs from the Create New button.  In CiviCRM 4.4, the Configure Your Dashboard button looked similar to the Create New button.

I opened an issue for this (CRM-15661), but was told the change was intentional and the issue was closed.

In 4.5 we introduced a subtler, less obtrusive button style (css class "crm-hover-button") which is now used throughout the interface to represent buttons and actions which
  • Are not a submit button for a form
  • Are not immediately relevant to the main purpose of the current screen
  • Might offer "extra" functionality but we don't want them to get in the way
Some CiviCRM screens had become quite cluttered with a large number of big black buttons all competing for your attention. The CiviCase interface is a good example of how the new button style improves balance.
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

Thanks for the explanation, Coleman.  That sounds like a reasonable improvement.  I don't use CiviCase and couldn't find examples of the new hover button on any of the other civi pages, leading me to think it was an inconsistency.
